What is high-speed?
Below is a list of excellent high-speed resources that will give you an in-depth explanation of high-speed filming and photography.
High-speed/slow motion, definition and history.

The links section of our site is also a good place to go for more information.
In short, it is the process by which thousands of images per second are recorded. Television is 29.97 frames per second, film is 24 fps. Capturing this many frames per second allows us to view things with a clarity impossible to the human eye.
What is it used for?
High-speed imaging is used in several applications.
-
Broadcast Television and Commercials
Film
Sports Analysis
Factory/Manufacturing line observation and troubleshooting
Ballistics and Range applications
Rocket Science
Scientific analysis
What could it be used for?
In a word, anything. Just perusing through the movies on this site will give you endless ideas for the applications and uses of high-speed filming.
What does it cost?
Like any new technology with a perceived niche market, high-speed cameras are expensive. The cost ranges from roughly $5,000 to well over $100,000.
I would like to purchase or rent a camera, what do I need to do?
First, you can use this site to help you identify a camera that fits your needs. From there you can go directly to the manufacturers site and look for a distributor near you or you can contact the distributor listed with the post. The distributors you contact will be very knowledgeable and will help you figure out just what is right for your application. If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me. info@lucidmovement.com

love the site. some amazing shots that i never thought of shooting in slow motion.
really curious as to when you may have full download ability for the high rez versions for most of your clips.
very interested in using them in segment for our church on getting people to look at their lives and this world differently.
i think using your clips as a visual reminder of that could be sweet.
thanks,

Currently the full resolution clips are in limbo as I am having difficulty obtaining a hosting service that can handle the file size and speed requirements I have. It has been a difficult process and I am current awaiting a reply from the company that currently hosts this site about a dedicated hosting solution. I am hoping to have this resolved this week if possible. However, I have over 40gb that has to be uploaded at this point so we are looking at a minimum of a week to two weeks before everything is actually available on the site.
lovely site, i liked so much, im a VJ in and you stuff is awesome ….. very tnx for your site…. i have a question.
exist a cheaper form to take high speed videos , without (official) equipament? mmh, like conect my camera to computer, and take the pics with software etc…
i dont have money to pay that cameras, but i want experiment for my sets.
tnx…. the hosting for your pics, are no problem, exists many sites to upload free, like rapidshare.

Unfortunately a normal camera cannot film at the necessary frame rates, only these specially designed cameras can film at these frame rates.
I love your work. Especially the ones involving people or animals, it can be very peaceful. Keep it up!

was wondering if, since the post in march 2007, if you have ever been able to get it set up so clips can be downloaded? I am interested in King Running…

Normally companies that do scientific work get equipment donated to them. But you are just an individual (or group, I don’t know which) with a an interest in it because its cool (nothing scientific). So how did you get anybody to donate equipment that is worth $5000 to $100,000 dollors?
I sure wish I could get somebody to donate this kind of equipment to me. I’m jealous.
Neil,
Hey there. I just spent almost an hour looking through your site– really awesome stuff! Are you still doing high-speed photography? I noticed there hasn’t been an update since October of last year. Are you still accepting orders? Hope this comment finds you well…

Hello there
Great site!
I would like to get hold of the ‘flint spark’ video in high quality if possible. It’s absolutely perfect for a project I’m currently working on.
Do you have somewhere I could download it from? Obviously I’ll pay for it.
Many thanks,
Andy
Neil,
Many thanks for posting the slow-mo Tannerite. My regular speed camcorder usually captures nothing. One frame has the intact bottle, the next frame is a completed detonation. Long time fascination with blowing things up, it was great to finally watch it happen, slowed WAY down. Favorite is going frame-by-fame on the water barrel. Thanks for taking the time and effort to post these. It is truly appreciated. Maybe a downloadable copy in the future?

I would love to buy a DVD(s) (or even better, Blu-ray) of all your clips. Do you have a DVD(s), or plan to make one in the future?
