So wrote Steven King in the Gunslinger, silly? Probably, but this shot brought it to mind. In this shot I wanted to capture the sliding sparks you get when scraping against a flint striker. This clip rather surprised me. I expected to see sparks and some smoke, and I got that. What I didn’t expect to see was that some of the sparks explode. This shot was ad hoc so the lighting was just tossed together with almost no thought, I had two of the lights placed behind the subject roughly 6ft both bouncing off the ceiling. I had removed both diffusers from both of the light boxes. The third light was placed to the camera left and raised to 7ft and angled down towards the subject. The subject was held at around 4′ or so.
