Welcome to Lucid Movement!

Hello and welcome to Lucid Movement! This blog will chronicle the world we live in, in a way that many of us have never seen it. High speed digital cameras allow us to capture events that are too fast for the human eye to see. Standard film is run at 24 frames per second, video is run at 29.97 (NTSC) or 25 (PAL). High speed cameras on the other hand range from 60 fps to 250,000+ fps! Our goal is to bring you high quality, high speed videos in an easy to browse and search format.

Who can use high speed / slow motion footage? Everyone. High speed footage is beautiful when filmed properly. The images are stunningly clear with no motion blur to hide what is actually taking place. The videos can be used for research purposes, for fun or for inclusion in effects shots. Many of the visual effects that are breathtaking are not CG but are actually real world events filmed at high speed.

Whether you are a high-speed enthusiast, visual effects artist, scientist or student, this footage will open your eyes to a new world. In addition to displaying the world as most have never seen it, this site will serve as a reference for people interested in purchasing high speed equipment. Along with each video I will be posting information about the shot such as…

  • Camera model and manufacturer
  • Camera settings (FPS, Shutter Speed etc)
  • Lighting settings and equipment
  • Lense settings (focal length, fstop, manufacturer)
  • Links to the companies that produced the items used to film the event
  • Scene measurements
  • A brief description of the clip and how it was created

With all of this information one could reproduce the shot, use the settings as a guideline for a similar shot etc.
Footage will be displayed at 400×300, and may be cropped to focus on the most interesting element. However full resolution, uncropped videos can be purchased and downloaded directly from the post. The full resolution video will vary in final resolution from 512×512 on up to HD depending on the camera used. The clips are available for around $5 each. This price does not reflect the quality of the clip, instead it reflects our desire to get this material and information in everyone’s hands, independent of individual budgets. The cost of the clips is to cover the bandwidth and storage space required for the hundreds of gigs of data that this site will transfer each month.

To help us offer these clips at the rates that we offer them we have a donation page for people who want to help out. We have several wishlists for gear we need in addition to the standard paypal donation setup. If you are interested in helping head over to the donations page. We appreciate everyone’s support!
